Teapot 101

My big focus this week is finishing up everything so that it can be bisque fired and glazed. The two exciting things that happened today were that I put together a tea pot and worked on my porcelain light sculptures. Here is a step by step guide of how to put together a tea pot.

Step 1: use your finger and water to make an indent in the side of your teapot where you want to attach the spout.

Step 2: use a drill bit to make holes in the indented circle.

Step 3: Scratch up both the spout and the area around the circle and cover both with slip.

Step 4: Attach the spout.

Step 5: Blend the spout into the teapot.

Step 6: Roll out a coil, but two lengths, and attach as lugs for the handle.

Step 7: Add carved decoration.

Step 8: Drape with plastic so that the spout and lugs don't dry faster than the rest of the pot.
