A perfect day

Today was a perfect day. I started out by driving deep into North Portland to Georgies clay to pick up some more clay and chemicals for making glazes. The people there seemed very nice and friendly, even the guy driving the fork lift who when I opened the back of my car laughed and said "oh wow, you must have a dog"...I don't, and am not sure if that was referring to how messy it was or something else. Its not like there were tufts of fur or anything. After picking up the clay I drove to Catlin and unloaded both the bisque and glaze kilns. I had put eight glaze tests in the kiln and they look beautiful! Not all of them, but there are a few that I am really excited about. I stood there looking at my glazes for about ten minutes in pure joy before I forced myself to go start throwing some things. I used some Pat Horsely clay (the usual white body) but then moved on to using the trail mix cinnamon that I picked up this morning. Trail mix cinnamon is a bright red clay which I really enjoyed using. During the day I was visited by both Leslie Sepetoski and Eve. Eve spend quite a while looking at my glaze tests and discussing the ingredients I used and possible combinations and alterations. Today I threw about ten or fifteen mugs, a few big bowls, and a serving platter and also attached a handle to another mug before leaving at about 2:40 to drive to the home of Ray and Jere Grimm in northwest portland. Ray and Jere were both Potters and I really enjoyed hearing about what pottery was like during their careers and also getting a tour of their basement which is full of both things they made and work of other artists. Ray also worked with other mediums including glass and wood. It was amazing to get to talk to two such accomplished artists whose work is so inspirational. This has nothing to do with my senior project but to continue telling you about my perfect day (oh, I also had a really good sandwich for lunch) after meeting with Ray and Jere I went to a yoga class and am now going to make brownies. What more is there to happiness than that? Not a whole lot.
