Driving with Jeff and Walt
Today was a slow day for Lorence Brother's Construction. I got to Jeff's house in the morning and had a cup of coffee with the brothers in Jeff's living room. Then we went out to the shop and cleaned out/organized the "van" (truck). In the shop was a bunch of trim for the house that I worked on on my first day. So we loaded it up into the van to be taken over. But before we delivered that trim we drove to a job that the brothers had done in Beaverton off of Walker rd. The brothers did not have kind words for these people, who had apparently been complaining about their inability to find the sprinkler box. We went into the garage and Jeff quickly spotted the sprinkler box. We drilled a hole through the wall of the garage and with some macgyveresque ingenuity fed the sprinkler wire through from outside. I got to strip the wires and plug them into the control box then mount the control box on the wall of the garage. And that was that.
Then we went back to Jeff's got the van and drove to North Portland. The tile guy was doing the shower in the master bath in the new addition they're building. I got to see how the siding I installed a week ago was holding up. We schlepped the trim to the basement and went out to lunch.
Today I got to spend some quality time with Jeff and Walt and hear about the business. I also got my "official" Lorence Brothers uniform: a baseball cap and two teeshirts. I'm set.

Jealous of the Hat
Eddie,
Some of my favorite moments doing manual labor was when we'd partner with a totally inept team and gawk at their mistakes. Sophomore year, I was working with Tecton construction (many funny and sad stories here) and we were doing this house for this Microsoft guy. They had contracted All City Fencing to do their fence, but we ended up having to re-do like 80% of the fence. Ken, our super-amazing guy, used to go off on TIRADES about All City Fence. But he had a different name for them. Shhhh...
Keep up the Chris work. Let's climb soon.
