Summary of Methods
PbS material properties were first researched. Then, quantum mechanical models were identified and computed in the cloud to obtain absorption properties of each type of PbS quantum dot investigated. Java programs were developed to compute spectral differences resulting from absorption by quantum dot layers, including implementation of novel algorithms with Monte Carlo simulation. To test and compare quantum dot stack combinations, models were developed and efficiencies were determined. Thus, the highest-efficiency 1, 2, 3, and 9-stack quantum dot solar cell stack combinations were determined, and the results were used to guide new designs for higher-efficiency multijunction PbS quantum dot solar cells.
