Everybody loves the cupcake messenger!

Along managing the online store, Galen sets up the cupcakes every morning at the Belmont location, and does the daily deliveries. And so, yesterday and today I went on deliveries with spatterings of onine store packaging in between. When people see you walking into their office with a giant box of cupcakes, nobody has any inclination to "shoot the messenger".

I arrived at Saint Cupcake at 9:00am, just in time to grab six giant tubs of dots (the adorable little cupcakes) and pack them securely into the bright orange Honda Element, Saint Cupcake emblems stickered proudly on all sides. I couldn't take my own picture, but found this lovely one thanks to Google:

Given my complete lack of directional sense, I was extremely impressed with Galen's ability to navigate so easily to places she'd never been!

To completely understand the delivery to Belmont, I'll need to tell you a little about what's been going on with that store. During the month of March, the store was closed for massive a massive remodel. If you haven't been to Belmont, before the model it was a little counter in the back of a store called Noun, which is owned and operated by a close friend of Jami's. In March, they brought Saint Cupcake to the front (to put it simply). Before the remodel, they were allowed to sell cupcakes in the back because they were told that the permits for the NW location also covered Belmont. While planning the remodel, they checked to make sure the permits still worked and were this time told that they needed to get a new one to cover Belmont when it re-opened. Now, this would have been fine except that the county people told Jami that the only thing that would cover Belmont, because there isn't anything like it anywhere else, is a full restaurant permit which means they now have to install a number of things (like a 3 compartment sink, etc) that the small store doesn't need, because all they do is sell cupcakes made at the NW store. So, for the first week or so after it reopened, they had to sell prepackaged cupcakes. Then they were told they couldn't even sell cupcakes until  the permit comes through, which to make a long story short, isn't happening quickly. So for now, the store is stocked with dots each morning and anyone who comes in gets a free dot and for any the customer wants after that, Saint Cupcake is asking for a $1.50 donation. It's working pretty well.

Anyway, at 9:00 we brought the tubs of dots to Belmont and got the store ready for Wednesday. After that quick little jaunt, we were ready to get the deliveries of the day and go out on the town! There were 3 on the docket for today, 2 to lawyer offices, and 1 to a shoe company. At each location, Galen neatly parallel parked and we walked in to welcoming smiles and excited exclamations of "Cupcakes!"

That was pretty much my day today, and my last view into a day in the life of Galen, online manager! On Friday, I will join the ranks in the kitchen and learn the super secret recipes that make Saint Cupcake cupcakes so delicious.

And I've been given a long term goal! Yesterday, Brendan of the front of house in NW informed me that while I was there, I have to try every flavor they offer. Yesterday that meant peanut butter (yuuum! a peanut butter cake with hot fudge frosting and peanut garnish), and today I tried the chocolate cream cheese swirl on chocolate (chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting swirled with chocolate buttercream, just as good as it sounds). Nichole, I know you've been wanting some chocolate eye candy, and I am happy to oblige. I give you, the chocolate cream cheese swirl on chocolate!

On Friday I'll tackle the ever popular Fat Elvis cupcake.

Mom loves this project!

I am a lucky mom because sometimes Margaret brings home samples for me to try - Yum! She always returns home happy from Saint Cupcake. I guess cupcakes can do that to you!

Chocolate cream cheese? Are

Chocolate cream cheese? Are you serious? And I thought the REGULAR cream cheese frosting on the chocolate cupcake was good.

I can almost taste the photo!

Thank you, Margaret! I can't wait to hear how Elvis tastes.

I agree with Sue that learning about the complexities of business is fascinating. And I love the resourceful way St. Cupcake responds to challenges!

If you find it too difficult to meet your "long term goal," let me know how I can help!

Rumble, rumble...

...is the sound my stomach is making as I read your blog, and gaze at those gorgeous photographs. Thanks for the information on the Belmont location. It causes you to realize the complexity of challenges that small businesses must face. The required renovations sound expensive! I'm enjoying your blog, Margaret! --Sue
