In which I consume copious amounts of chocolate cake...

...at a botanic garden. Yum.

Day 2

Before the cake, though, I finished up the live plant census from Monday. I was SO glad to get it finished.

Anyway, today was Courtney's birthday, so we had a party, with the largest and most decadent chocolate cake I've ever eaten. We sat around the table outside and had cake and tea.

I dug into my large slice with zeal. It was a really good cake. Then I got about halfway through and began to feel rather queasy. The tea didn't help. I ate the whole thing and felt even queasier. So nauseous, in fact, that I took one look at my lunchbox and thought, "No, thanks." So yeah, I skipped lunch today.

Erin had to leave at 11 to go on a trip which lasts until next Tuesday. She let me use her computer to do the dead plant accession number thing I was doing on Monday. And since we are apparently both into 89.9 (the classical music radio station), she showed me how to stream it on the computer so I could listen to music while I sorted through plant tags. She even, very kindly, left me the last pieces of the mint chocolate bar. I can't even look at it, though, because I think I'll be sick if I even think about any more chocolate.

So I sat down at the computer and got to work inputting data from the Delphinium leucophaeum red dish germination trials. There were 17 dishes in all, and that means a lot of paperwork. But after Ed patiently instructed me in the art of Microsoft Excel, I sorted through it all and jotted it down in a spreadsheet. No problem. I got it done in about an hour and a half, I think.

So I'm feeling pretty upbeat about having finished my work, and I decide to go take a stroll and eat some grapes.

Me: Hey Ed, I'm done!
(Ed takes a seat at Erin's computer and looks over my red dish data.)
Ed: Okay. Did you finish the blue dish trials?
Me: ...
Ed: ...
Me: ...
Ed: ...
Me: ...I guess I'm not done, then.
Ed: ...Maybe you should go take a walk first.

I got most of the way through the second part, then I was supposed to leave at 5, but my dad got stuck in traffic. So I wandered around the place taking pictures with my cell phone camera. So yay, I finally have pictures. Please excuse the subpar quality: it is only a cell phone camera, after all. The pictures really don't do the beauty of the garden justice.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but I'll end this post here.

Priyanka -- plant census!

Priyanka -- plant census! dead plant accession! AND chocolate...sounds like a wonderful senior project to me. The photos are great, too -- thanks for including them! What with the lovely weather we're having now, the Botanic Garden sounds like an excellent place to be. I look forward to reading more installments of your blog!
