Stop and ogle the cupcakes!

With the Belmont cupcakes less than a foot from the giant front windows, over the past 3 days I saw nearly everyone who walked by the store take multiple glances at the cupcakes before they weren't visible anymore. The most honest about their cupcake craves though, were a 3 or 4 year old girl, and a golden retriever almost full grown puppy.

I hope this cupcake makes your day better.

Yesterday and Monday I made batter and frosting. As I made each recipe (chocolate batter, vegan chocolate batter, cream cheese frosting, hot fudge, vegan german chocolate frosting, vegan vanilla frosting, and cinnamon rolls) I tried to memorize the amounts so I could go home and make, say, the vegan chocolate cupcakes so I could eat them without feeling guilty of depleting the limited number they make each day! Of course I may be able to memorize a 20 line poem over the course of 2 weeks, but a 8 ingredient recipe in 30 minutes? Turns out I can't do it...

Symmetry neurotics? Justified.

What better way is there to finish off a week of finding out about weddings at Saint Cupcake then seeing the final product? Today I went with Galen in the cupcake mobile to help set up a wedding at the Avalon Hotel and Spa. It smaller than she usually sets up, only 100 dots (they recommend 2 dots per person) so the set up was pretty fast.

"We really want to show off Portland."

When planning a wedding, what's truly the most important part? Well, a couple that plan on spending the rest of their life together is probably a pretty good place to start. But with that out of the way, what comes to the minds of most people when someone says "wedding"? You might say, the bride's dress. Or Patrick Dempsey (that might just be me though, I really like Maid of Honor). Or you might even just start humming the wedding march. But what gets the glossy pictures right after that giant, beautiful dress that cost a small (or large) fortune? The cake.

Today I immersed myself in the kitchen. With the efficiency of much practice, 3 bakers fired up the kitchen and starting making the neighborhood smell delicious while outside the sun rose (or rather, the earth turned and NW Portland turned to view the star). I stumbled in at what I thought to be an early 7:50, only to find everyone already in the middle of frosting, scooping, mixing, and sprinkling.

Everybody loves the cupcake messenger!

Along managing the online store, Galen sets up the cupcakes every morning at the Belmont location, and does the daily deliveries. And so, yesterday and today I went on deliveries with spatterings of onine store packaging in between. When people see you walking into their office with a giant box of cupcakes, nobody has any inclination to "shoot the messenger".

Round white labels are not uniform!

When making a brand, appearance is an extremely major part. The product may be nice, and a consumer may enjoy it but people won't buy something that looks bad. So what do you do? Make the packaging awesome!

Welcome to the adult world! Well, kinda.

This morning, in preparation, I went for a run. At 9:30, I caught the 20 and bused downtown to start my senior project at the delicious Saint Cupcake. I figure running will need to be a more integral part of my schedule if my daily cupcake intake stays at the current level.
