Senior Project

The Final Countdown

Today is the last day of senior projects ever.  What have I spent the day doing?  I have been analyzing the data I collected and discovering success rates for certain surgeries.  The percentages I calculated are probably not very accurate, however, because I only analyzed 43 patients total.  36 of them had trabeculectomies and only 7 of them had tube surgeries.  From the numbers I worked with, trabeculectomies had a 66.67% success rate, 13.89% qualified success rate, and a 19.44% rate of failure.  The tube surgeries have a a 57.14% qualified success rate, a 42.

DISCLAIMER

This is my fourth time today trying to blog.  The first time I sneezed and hit the back key.  That was funny enough.  The second time my browser crashed because this loaner computer cannot handle PDF files and freaks out everytime I try to look at one.  The third time while I was inserting a picture I clicked the backspace key to delete something, but instead it went back to the previous webpage.  Blogging four times in one day.  Nichole would be so proud.

So the Tuesday before my the 1st grader zoo excursion my mentor was out of town.  Instead just not doing anything I went through more patient files.  It's a little tedious but once I got used to where things are in the files they go by fairly fast.   I also have some paperwork to fill out and a test to take about work place safety and things like that.  Soon my mentor and I are going to go over the data and see what we should do with it.  I will write more about glaucoma later, but right now its time to do some work.

Clarifications! (and eyeballs...)

So in my last blog post I received a couple comments asking me to elaborate on some of the things I mentioned.  Hopefully this entry will help lift the fog of befuddlement from your mind.

Glaucoma is a condition of the eye in which the optic nerve is damaged.  This can lead to loss of vision if not properly treated.  In most cases, abnormal intraoccular pressure causes the damage to the nerve.
