Notes on Creativity at the Heart of Learning

"It seeks to inspire and support fellow educators who believe that the fundamental purpose of education is to uncover who we are, the gifts we bring and the interest that stir our hearts and minds" (Judy Graves, Opal School Founder, Forward of Susan Harris MacKay's essay  Creativity at the Heart of Learning, vi).

Today, I washed countless plastic forks, wedged a few blocks of rather wet clay, and won a couple games of solitare, and picked up a book off the floor.

The Children's Museum is very overstaffed. There are simply too many volunteers, asked to do the same work as the lowest tier paid-staff, so there's a lot fo waiting around, waiting for five minutes of chaos to make the day worthwhile. One girl, Kristi, who has been a paid staff member for a year scarcely has more responsibility than a volunteer of similar tenure.
