Last Saturday the Eagles traveled to John Day, Oregon to take on the Grant Union Prospectors for the first round of the OSAA State Championships. After a lengthy bus trip and a good night's sleep the Eagles dismantled the Pro's defense with 108 attacks, yielding 43 kills in 4 sets (21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-18) lead by veteran Outside Hitter, McKensie Mickler. Mickler hit .375 on the night, bringing down 28 kills and earning a huge 7.0 kills/game. This brings Mickler to an even 400 kills for the year (4.8 K/G). The Prospectors applied some heavy hitting pressure early on but were unable to shake the Eagles defense lead by Senior Middle Blocker Sabin Ray (24 digs) and Junior Libero, Esichang McGautha (17 digs). Catlin Gabel was the only 3A school to win on the road during the 1st round.
This win progresses the Eagles to the quarterfinals at Lane Community College on Friday, November 12, where they will be taking on the #1 Burns Highlanders at 8:00 a.m. on Court #1.
